Sign Up for Remind to Get Class Messages from Ms. Kribbs
By clicking the image below, you will be taken to the Remind Website to join our class. Once you have joined, you can receive messages from me about our class. These are usually quick reminders about field trips, testing, projects or special events. Your number is not shared with anyone else in the class. There is also an option to message me through Remind if you'd rather not text. Remind can be linked to text or email. It is an incredibly helpful communication tool.
Supplies
The Friends of Hawthorne PTA has generously purchased school supplies for all classrooms at Hawthorne Elementary! This was a huge undertaking and we are incredibly thankful to them for their hard work in making this happen.
For our classroom, each student will still need to bring a spare set of clothes in a bag with their name on it in case of a bathroom accident or clothes becoming wet. Please send a full outfit with underwear, socks, shirt and pants. Loose fitting is best as some kids may not need it for several months.
The PTA is not supplying classroom snacks, so the K team is asking for snack donations. Pretzels, goldfish, fruit snacks, crackers, fresh fruit, cheese sticks, or any other delicious, nut free item is welcome and appreciated. I will send out a message each time we become low on snack.
If you are still interested in donating to the classroom, there is a Class Wish List on the 'Help Us Grow!' section.

Kindergarten Sight Word List
It is critical that our students memorize the following list of sight words before entering first grade. Automatic recall of the basic sight words is essential for and predictive of future reading ability. Some fun ways to practice these words are to put each word on two flash cards and play memory or Go Fish. Students can also follow the links to the iRead and Starfall computer programs to practice. Those links can be found under "Important Links".

Homework
Today's kindergarten is extremely academic and our day is full, full, full while your kiddo is at school. As a result, we feel students should have time to decompress, play and spend time with their families while at home.
Rather than sending home traditional homework worksheets, we have a weekly reading log. We ask that over the course of the week, you spend time reading with your student. They can read to you, you to them, them to a pet, a sibling to them. Whatever works for your family. We are looking for positive interactions with literacy on a daily basis. When your student reads, it is good practice with word recall, but it is also very helpful for you to read more complicated stories to them so they can comprehend more complex plots. This should not be stressful, just a way to record what is already happening with books in your home. The recording is good practice for our kids to prepare them for when they will have traditional homework in later grades. Students will have a chance to check out books from our classroom library to support their at-home reading.
Reading logs are sent home on Monday and should be returned the following Monday. They also include a newsletter and a list of the sight words we are covering in class.
